Privacy Policy
1. Who This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy describes how CapySleep ("we," "our," or "the app") handles information in connection with the CapySleep iOS application. CapySleep has no account system, does not require sign-in, and does not ask for your name or email address.
2. Data Processed by the App
CapySleep processes only the data needed for features you choose to use. The app does not automatically transmit this data to the developer and has no developer-operated server.
- Optional profile data: If you choose to provide it—your capybara companion's name, birth year, sex, weight, height, default bedtime, and wake time—used to personalize app features and reminders. These values are entered by you in CapySleep and are not read from Apple Health.
- Apple Health data: If you grant access, we read (and optionally write) sleep analysis data to show and record sleep in the app. Apple Health data and locally cached Apple Health sleep reports are processed and stored on your device and are not included in CapySleep's iCloud sync.
- Motion data: If you grant access, we use device motion for manual sleep session features, such as sleep stage estimates. Raw motion streams are not uploaded. Derived motion epochs may be included with a manual session when you enable private iCloud sync.
- Microphone and audio: If you grant access, we may record and analyze audio during manual sleep sessions for sound events. Audio is stored on your device and optionally in your iCloud if you enable iCloud sync.
- Apple Music / Media Library: If you grant access and use CapySleep Pro features that need it, CapySleep can let you choose tracks from your Apple Music or iTunes library as sleep-aid or alarm sounds. Track selection happens on your device through Apple’s media frameworks. We do not upload your music library to a developer-operated server.
- CapySleep-generated app data: Manual sleep and nap sessions, audio recordings, journal entries, optional profile fields, reminders, and preferences are stored locally and may sync through your private iCloud if you enable iCloud sync.
- Purchases and subscription status: If you buy CapySleep Pro, Apple processes the transaction through the App Store. CapySleep verifies whether Pro is active on your device using Apple StoreKit. We do not receive your payment card number, billing address, or Apple ID password, and we do not operate a developer server that stores your purchase history together with your sleep, health, journal, or audio data.
- Free-plan usage counter: To enforce Free-plan session limits on this device, CapySleep may store a small lifetime counter in the iOS Keychain. That counter is a usage floor only—it does not contain sleep content, health samples, microphone audio, journal text, or payment details. It can persist after you erase local app data or reinstall CapySleep on the same device. A full device erase or Keychain reset removes it.
- Onboarding completion marker: After you finish onboarding, CapySleep stores a one-value marker in the iOS Keychain. It contains no profile, sleep, Health, audio, journal, or purchase data. The marker may remain after an ordinary app deletion so a verified returning Pro user can receive a shorter welcome-back flow after reinstall. Erase Local App Data removes it; a full device erase or Keychain reset also removes it.
We do not collect app data through a developer-operated server, sell personal or health data, or use your data for advertising or cross-app tracking.
3. Purchases and CapySleep Pro
CapySleep Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple is the merchant of record for the purchase. CapySleep does not run its own checkout, payment processor, or subscription account system.
- What we receive: CapySleep does not receive your full payment details. The app checks subscription status on your device through Apple StoreKit so it can unlock Pro features while your subscription is active.
- What stays on your device: StoreKit may keep signed entitlement information locally on your iPhone so Pro access can work offline after a valid purchase. CapySleep may also store a limited local snapshot of your active subscription period to bridge brief StoreKit sync delays. This snapshot is used only to determine feature access, is cleared when StoreKit reports no active entitlement, and is not uploaded to a developer-operated server. Separately, the Free-plan session usage counter described above may remain in Keychain so Free limits cannot be reset by deleting sessions or reinstalling the app on the same device.
- What we do not do: We do not link App Store purchase records to your sleep, Health, motion, microphone, journal, or iCloud data on a developer-operated server because CapySleep has no such server.
- App Store Connect: Apple may provide the developer with aggregated or de-identified sales and subscription reporting through App Store Connect. That reporting is separate from the health and wellness content you create in the app.
4. Legal Basis and Consent
Where required by law (e.g., GDPR), we process your data based on your consent when you grant permissions (Health, Motion, Microphone, and Media Library / Apple Music when you use those features) and when you optionally enter profile data. You may withdraw consent by revoking permissions in iOS Settings and by erasing app data in Settings > Manage Data. Erasing local app data removes CapySleep-generated content from the app container; the Free-plan Keychain usage counter may remain on the device as described above.
5. Storage and iCloud
CapySleep does not operate a server or account system. By default, your data stays on your device. If you enable "Sync CapySleep Data with iCloud" in Settings, Apple's CloudKit stores eligible CapySleep-generated data in the private iCloud database associated with your Apple Account so your supported devices can synchronize. This may include manual sessions, derived motion epochs, recordings, journal entries, optional profile fields, reminders, and preferences. Apple Health data, locally cached Apple Health sleep reports, and local sleep-review prompt status are not included. The developer does not receive or view your private iCloud records. Synced data remains subject to Apple's iCloud policies.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Data is kept until you delete it. In Settings > Manage Data you can export sleep data, erase recordings, erase local app data, delete CapySleep data from your private iCloud database, or erase both local and iCloud data. Deleting iCloud data turns sync off. Apple Health data is not deleted; manage it in the Health app. If you keep local data and later re-enable iCloud sync, that local data may upload again. Erasing local app data removes CapySleep-generated content from the app container, but the Free-plan Keychain usage counter may remain on the device as described above.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data. You can do this in the app via Settings > Manage Data (export and delete). For Health data, use the Health app and iOS Settings to view or revoke access. For other requests, contact us using the details below.
8. Third Parties and Sharing
We do not share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising. Data may be processed by Apple (device, iCloud, Health, and App Store billing/subscription services) as part of normal iOS and iCloud operation. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs that track you across apps or websites.
9. Security
We rely on iOS and iCloud security to protect your data. Data on your device is stored in the app's sandbox. When iCloud is enabled, data is transmitted and stored according to Apple's security practices. You are responsible for keeping your device and Apple ID secure.
10. Children
CapySleep is not directed at children under 13. The app has no account system or developer-operated server. App data remains on the device or, if private iCloud sync is enabled, in the user's iCloud account. A parent or guardian can remove local and private iCloud data through Settings > Manage Data.
11. International Use
The app may be used globally. If you are in the European Economic Area, UK, or other regions with specific data protection laws, the rights and bases described in this policy apply. Data may be stored on your device and in iCloud in regions determined by Apple.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. We encourage you to review the policy periodically. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
13. Contact
For questions about these Terms of Use or this Privacy Policy, contact us through "Report a Problem" in Settings or at capysleep.support@gmail.com. If you choose to send a support email, we receive the email address and information you voluntarily include in that message; this is separate from CapySleep's app data and iCloud sync.
